Board of Selectmen


 

The weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Tuesday evening, March 18, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.


Present: Theresa McNulty, Chairman; David L. Walsh, Clerk ; Peter A. Hamilton

           George Samia, Town Administrator

           Karen Grabau, Adm. Assistant


Mrs. McNulty called for a moment of silence in memory of Eric Greene, former Selectman who passed away. Noted that that Town Departments may close their offices to attend the funeral service on Wednesday. Offered the Boards condolences to Eric’s family.


Mrs. McNulty also offered the Board’s condolences to the family of Joe Sprunk, who passed away last week.


M/Walsh, s/Hamilton, a unanimous vote, move to approve the minutes of the March 11, 2008 meeting.


M/Walsh, s/Hamilton, a unanimous vote, move to approve the request of Regina Foley-Egan for use of the Sachem Rock Farm on May 16, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. for a Bridging Ceremony for all Girl Scouts in Town.


M/Walsh, s/Hamilton, a unanimous vote, move to approve the reappointment of Robert E. Lundberg as Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer for the period of March 19, 2008 to June 30, 2009.

Letter from Weston & Sampson re: Taunton River Watershed Study

 

            Letter of inquiry from Lynne Silva re: Christmas Parade Committee – Board asked that

she be informed that the recreation Commission would be addressing this at their Thursday meeting and to invite Mrs. Silva to be present.

APPOINTMENT

Jane Haines, Director of Elder Services, presented information relative to the ’09 draft budget for her department. Also present were Beverly Fanning and Nancy Hill.

 

A power-point presentation of the COA budget was given with Mrs. Haines explaining budget changes and impacts to department.


APPOINTMENT

Marilyn Thompson, Treasurer/Collector presented information relative to her department ’09 draft budget.  

 

A power-point presentation was given with Mrs. Thompson explaining the various changes in her department’s budget and reasons for changes.


Mrs. Thompson and Mr. Samia explained Health Insurance costs. A discussion was held regarding changes, premiums and costs to Town.


Discussed Plymouth County Retirement Plan; possible town will in the future have increased costs to fund plan; County mandating a GASB45 survey.

A discussion was held regarding Debt Service; explanation of interest costs for various projects; bonding issuances; Capital Projects and need for funding.


APPOINTMENT

Claire Yocum, Conservation Commission Chairman, presented the draft ’09 budget. Explained the changes in budget; noted that an additional 6 hours has been added to clerical hours and that the additional cost is being taken from the Conservation Commission’s revolving account.

           EB Historical Society Lecture – Archeological Finds at Robins Pond – March 26, 7 p.m.

OPEN FORUM

           No one was present


M/Walsh, s/Hamilton, move to close Open Session and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing contract negotiations and pending litigation and will not be returning to Open Session.

VOTE: Yes – McNulty, Walsh, Hamilton; a unanimous vote in favor.
